Good Morning -
It was another relatively quiet day yesterday, although this one was spent in the company of friends. Two sets of friends, two shared meals - a great way to spend a day.
For lunch, we gathered at the home of two friends of ours with another couple for conversation, grilling, and margaritas by the pool. We try to gather with these two other couples at least once a month at one of our homes. It's been a busy summer for all of us, so this was the first gathering in a bit and there was plenty of conversation to catch up on.
Before we knew it, the sun had moved to 5:30 and we were due to head out to another friends' house for dinner. Another couple joined us and we shared a wonderful dinner of roasted lamb, rice, Greek salad and fresh berries with yogurt for dessert. Conversation flowed and suddenly it was 9 and time to head home.
The wine label set over an image of a saguaro at sunset for the Virgen is from the bottle we shared at dinner - Bear's Lair. It's a bit of a joke that started with these women when we went camping at Parker Lake (there's that self-linking, navel-gazing, eye crossing again...). One of the women stated that she didn't think it should just be gay men who get to have the sub-category of "bear" and suggested we reclaim it for ourselves. She stated that she has an affinity to bears (the animals) and doesn't think it's fair that only gay men can be bears.
A few other women in the group agreed and soon they were deciding what made a lesbian bear. I'd share it with you, but if I remember right, the rule ended up being that there is no rule - or something. Any of them reading this are welcome to comment and inform the group what it takes to be a She-Bear (another question they had - what to call themselves. Female animals often have unfortunate names like "cow" and "sow").
I had set all sorts of pragmatic goals for myself for yesterday - getting things done before we headed out at lunch, getting things done between lunch and dinner, getting things done after dinner. Few of these goals came to fruition, and clearly, despite what I thought I needed yesterday, what I really needed was conversation with friends.
Here's to getting just what you need, even (or especially) when you don't know you need it.
